“To love yourself right now, just as you are, is to give yourself heaven. Don’t wait until you die. If you wait, you die now. If you love, you live now.” — Alan Cohen
“You can’t hate yourself happy. You can’t criticize yourself thin. You can’t shame yourself worthy. Real change begins with self-love and self-care.” — Jessica Ortner
Feeling comfortable in your skin is the real beauty. In recent years, major brands like Nike, Dove, and JC Penny have chosen plus size models to advocate body positivity and self-love.
Body positivity is just another name for acceptance.
A high percentage of young girls– and boys– are dissatisfied with their bodies and many feel they don’t make the grade. Here, it is not enough to tell them to resist the pressure. The standards of beauty that society imposes upon us can be harsh to cope up with. Furthermore, to feel the pressure is natural. It can prove to be very difficult to feel positive, especially if you've experienced criticism and negative comments regarding your physique.
But, there is hope and this is where the idea of Body Positivity comes in.
Body positive campaigns tell us to feel differently about our bodies. They encourage us to be with ourselves and our bodies from moment to moment and accept ourselves as who we are. Celebrities like Demi Lovato, Amy Schumer, and Serena Williams continue to speak bravely and post about their struggles with body acceptance. Additionally, pop stars- Taylor Swift and Sam Smith have also begun to tackle their struggles with body acceptance and media shaming publicly. Our body loves us, and we must love it back.
Adore your body for what it can do. We are all beautiful. All bodies are flawless!
